District 7040 Interact Mission to El Salvador, March 9 - 21, 2005

DAY 8: Thursday, March 17th, 2005

Hey! It’s room 7 (Gabrielle, Crystal and Bryn)

Today in the morning we went to a bakery and took a tour. They were very generous and let us sample a few of their goods.

After that we went to a home for physically and mentally handicapped children. There, we played with the children while others painted a mural. We took turns and were able to create a brighter environment for the children. After the mural was done, we had a piñata that the kids were able to hit and get candy from. They really enjoyed it and so did we.

When we left, we went to lunch at Bambues, a private restaurant with a pool that we had been to before for dinner. After lunch, we went to visit the women’s prison to give donations of fabric, sewing machines, and embroidery thread. We got to see where they worked on the sewing that they were taught and were able to go to the gift shop to buy some of their handicrafts.

Tonight, we went to a Salvadorian gathering at one of the Rotarians’ house (Sandra Levingstone). We got to try traditional food and some even dared to sing some karaoke.
