District 7040 Interact Mission to El Salvador, March 9 - 21, 2005

DAY 11 - 12: Sunday - Monday, March 20 - 21, 2005

Today is departure day. We finished our packing and put on our yellow shirts for the last time as a group. The shirts/dairies were signed by our new friends. Many Rotarians came to say farewell and thank us one more time. Tears were shed. Last minute shopping was done at the Happy House Hotel.

The yellow shirts boarded the bus and headed to the airport for our 2 pm departure. Most of the group had Campero chicken for lunch. The plane to Miami only carried 78 passengers so we could move around and sit with special friends. In Miami the yellow shirts really paid off. Ligia and Jessica could quickly proceed through the U.S. customs. The rest of us faced long lines. Upon seeing the yellow shirts, a customs officer moved us as a group to the U.S. line and we were through very quickly to join Jessica. Final farewells were said to Ligia.

We ate while waiting for our plane to Montreal, Sabrina where is your ticket and passport? The plane was crowded but we all arrived safely. Parents were waiting for Bojan, Dagnee, Laura, Gabrielle and Sara. More tears.

The Evans bus was not there to take the remaining 18 of us to Cornwall. We waited and waited and waited (2 hours in the cold). We hired another bus to take us to Cornwall when the Evans bus pulled up. The other bus was gracious and let us out of our agreement. Finally tears and goodbyes took place in Cornwall at about 3:30 am.

Our adventure of a lifetime was complete. We made new friendships that will last a lifetime. We experienced the beauty of El Salvador with its’ people, ocean, landscapes and culture. We thank Rotary for giving us the opportunity to leave a little of ourselves in El Salvador.
