DAY 7: Thursday, March 16th, 2006This morning we were allowed to sleep in until 7am!!!!!! We then had a breakfast of eggs with tomatoes and Casamiento (beans mixed with rice). After this we headed back to San Jose Villanueva where we continued to shovel and move dirt in order for the villagers to make a retaining wall. Today we were accompanied by Otto and Lombardo, as well as a girl from New Hampshire who is working in the community for three months. The extra hands and help was greatly appreciated and made the job faster. We completed our job and then had a Subway lunch. (it took 2 hours to arrive!) After lunch we gave out donations to the people in this village. These donations consisted of mainly clothes and a few toys and soccer balls. Jin, Becky, Jill and Erin played soccer with the children while the others were playing with the youngest of the kids, or relaxing in the shade. When we left the village there were tears of appreciation by some of the women for all of the help we gave. Our help gave them hope and a moral boost that will allow them to complete the wall before the rain comes. We then headed back to the hotel to wash the dirt off of our bodies, and had a few hours to relax. Jen was in the shower when the water turned off and she was left with soapy hair and was freaking out. We were told the water would not be back on until Mañana, but luckily they were wrong and everything got sorted out. Dinner was at TGI Friday’s and then we headed to the supermarket to buy drinks and snacks for the orphanage tomorrow. Now everyone is exhausted from two long days of work and are ready to go to bed.
