DAY 2: Friday, March 9th, 2007Buenos Tardes! Today we got to sleep in until 8:00 and then we had our first taste of refried beans before leaving for our cultural day. We started out at a museum where we had a tour of prehistoric Salvadorian people and how they lived. We learned some very interesting facts like; the first currency they used were coco beans, 100 coco beans bought someone a slave. They believed in many different Gods and played games in which the winners were awarded the honour of sacrificing themselves or the Gods. Next stop was Multi Plaza, the newest mall around. We had the opportunity to eat some lunch and meet a new friend Ricardo, a local Rotaractor. After an hour of shopping and practicing Spanish we headed to the market. On the bus ride there we saw many volcanoes and beautiful landscape. Once we arrived at the market we learned how to bargain and made some good purchases. With the help of Otto, Ricardo and Carlos (the BEST bus driver ever) we managed to learn some more Spanish. On the way back to the Alamo, our hotel, we stopped at the grocery store and picked up some food for tomorrow. To end the day we went back to the hotel and got ready for our big night out. Tonight was our first taste El Salvador food, at a restaurant nearby. While enjoying the cultural food we met some more Rotaractors who came with us to our final stop at a popular outdoor mall. We toured the mall with our friends Lombardo, Otto and Ricardo until it was time to head home after a busy day. As we have an early morning ahead of us tomorrow, Buenos noches!
