District 7040 Interact Mission to El Salvador, March 8 - 19, 2007

DAY 4: Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Hola fellow Canadians!

Today we were able to sleep in until 8:30. After showering and breakfast we got on the bus to go to a local school to paint a mural. The school children wanted us to paint a Peter Pan design. As we drove up to the school the children ran out to greet us. You could see that they were really excited to see us.

The wall that we have to paint is around 45 by 18 feet. The first thing that we had to do was prime the wall. With everyone helping, including the children, priming only took an hour. While we were waiting for the primer to dry we were able to play with the children. It was nice to see the effort the children put into learning some English in order to communicate with us more efficiently. Soccer and red rover were the games of the day. They especially enjoyed playing red rover as they had never played before.

Once the primer had dried we were able to start drawing. Luckily Amanda and Emma are artists, or we would not have been able to accomplish very much. The rest of us let them take care of the outlining, as we are somewhat artistically challenged. After the outlining was completed everybody was able to “paint inside the lines”. Some of us got extremely dirty due to an “accidental” paint fight. We began to prepare for our departure from the school around four o'clock. The children were happy at how their day unfolded. We were disappointed to leave but were happy to know that we would be returning this Tuesday. Since we have a big day ahead of us, we opted to stay in for dinner.

Buenas Noches,
