District 7040 Interact Mission to El Salvador, March 6 - 17, 2008

DAY 5: Monday, March 10th, 2008

Another early morning, today we packed up and headed to Los Naranjos for the construction aspect of our mission. We loaded up our bus and drove for about an hour before completing our journey on the back of a pick-up truck (A nice surprise!). Soon after getting there we began our work; painting houses, pouring concrete floors, and filling in/sealing partly finished homes.

After a long day of hard (and very hot!) work, we headed to the village of San Jose de Vilanueva to make a presentation of solar lamps to the people living there. The people were extremely appreciative and the donations were very well received. These particular villagers are living in homes built during an Interact mission three years ago (See “Mission 2005”). These villagers are in an extremely awkward situation as they cannot get electricity due to an ongoing land dispute between the El Salvadorian government and a land donor from California.

Finally, after hours of hard work, we went to dinner at a private club that had a pool. The pool felt incredibly refreshing after a long days work. For dinner, we had fillet mignon wrapped in bacon. Just like every other meal, it was delicious. Leigha and Billy continued their epic thumb war after dinner, but after ten minutes there was still no winner.
