DAY 2: Saturday, June 27th, 2009Happy 18th Birthday Amy!!! We started off the day today with a sleep in until 7:30! We had awesome pancakes for breakfast and got on the bus for the hour long drive to Izalco where we would be painting at a school called Centro Escolar Catolico Presbitero Salvador Castillo Colorasano. There turned out to be quite a number of local kids and their parents there to help so the work quickly got underway. Unfortunately, our green paint also ran out very quickly. This led a couple of us to go on an hour and a half long adventure all over Sonsonate to try to find more paint. Bad directions and the fact that hardly any stores took credit cards led us in circles all over until we finally found a store an hour later. We got our paint and returned to the school only to find out that the paint was the wrong colour! However, we used the bright apple green on the outside of the school and it looked great! We went back to the hotel and Otto arrived with an ice cream birthday cake for Amy. Later, we went to the Granvia for dinner with the Rotaractors and some of us tried the bungee trampoline. We returned to the hotel, sorted donations for tomorrow, washed out water bottles and went to bed. |
