Day 6: Wednesday, July 1th, 2009Feliz cumpleaños Canada! After five days of hard work we were rewarded by having Canada day to sit back and relax. Our day started off great with our fresh squeezed orange juice and fried bananas, only to get even better when we headed off to the Canadian Embassy. At the embassy we were introduced to Nancy Westhaver, the Consul, and Romeo Calderon, Trade. During our meeting we learned a lot about Canadian and El Salvador relations. Following this interesting meeting we headed off to the market to experience Salvadorian bargaining. At the market we were able to explore many outdoor booths, full of souvenirs and lots of hammocks. Tired out from spending all of our money we headed out to a small Mexican restaurant for lunch where we enjoyed plenty of nachos. Reenergized by our delicious meal we decided to visit the Museo National de Anthropologia. Here we were able to learn all about the history of El Salvador. As well as seeing many artifacts we were also lucky to see a real mummy. After such a tiring tourist day we got all cleaned up and headed to the Sheraton Hotel to attend the Embassy´s Canada Day Celebration. Here we were fortunate enough to meet many diplomats, Rotarians, and even the Ambassador herself. After great speeches and numerous appetizers we mingled among other guests, learning even more about the culture of El Salvador. Spending Canada Day here made us appreciate our country even more, and realize how truly lucky we are to be Canadians… Kristin and Natalie |
