Day 9: Saturday, July 4th, 2009 – INDEPENDANCE DAY

Happy Forth of July everybody! To start off the day, as usual, we sat down to a wonderful breakfast of pancakes and freshly-squeezed orange juice. After packing up the bus, we drove for one hour to get to Aguilares. There, we held our second medical clinic in a church. The church was surrounded by little markets where everyone sold fruit, jewelry and other trinkets. The church was a perfect location for a medical clinic; there was plenty of shade, refreshments and it was also very spacious. Our medical clinic lasted from 8am until approximately 1:30pm. Throughout the time of medical clinic, small groups of students were taken to the Aguilares Nursing Home. We all went and saw the improvements made to the nursing home and the improvements that are still desperately needed. At around 2:30pm, we ate an amazing lunch of chicken, vegetables, rice and potatoes. Then, we hopped back on the bus, drove back to the hotel, packed our bags and left for the mall. At the mall, we had the chance to shop for coffee (for our parents). After that, we went to Los Bambues where we swam in a private pool and had a catered dinner. We had to leave at 9:30pm because everyone was exhausted! What a day!
