DAY 7: Thursday, March 18th, 2010We woke up to delicious scrambled eggs, watermelon and toast. We grabbed our gear and headed out to the bus at 8 AM to go to Joya de Ceran, which was a Mayan historical site that was discovered by accident. The buildings were covered by the volcanic ashes of the Ilopango volcano. The site was unbelievable. We also attempted to make a human pyramid in front of a Mayan pyramid, but we only made half of one. Oh well, we tried. After seeing the ruins, we made our way to a girlsī orphanage called Maria Auxiliadora in Chalchuapa. We brought 27 boxes of pizzas, 4 watermelons and a lot of chips and pop for a big lunch party. Everyone was laughing and dancing up a storm, especially Joe. We also bought some of the jewelry and key chains that the girls have made, and cookies, too. At the end, the girls thanked us by singing us a lovely song. It was sad to leave the orphanage, but they invited us to visit anytime. After the orphanage, we had about an hour to get ready to go out again for dinner. Everyone got all dressed up to go to Fiesta Mexicana, where we had dinner with Hanns Jr. and his friends. We all had tacos, which were very delicious, although we had a lot of leftovers. After dinner we made our way to KGB, which was a karaoke bar that was just beside Fiesta Mexicana. We sang along to familiar songs, and also tried to sing along to El Salvadorian songs. A lot of our song requests did not get played, but that didnīt stop us from dancing and having a good time. We didnīt want to end the dancing, but we are excited for another cultural day tomorrow. Adios, Chi Hui, Hye Bin and Jensen |
