District 7040 Interact Mission to El Salvador, 11-22 March, 2010

DAY 8: Friday, March 19th, 2010

Cultural Day

Our day started out with a good breakfast of pineapple and pancakes served by the fine staff at hotel Sisimiles. The later than usually wake up call had us on the bus before the early hour of 8:00 am. It was a hour bus ride to Santa Ana where we meet the Mayor and had a tour of the government offices, the theatre and Cathedral. Our tour guide was very knowlegeable about the history of the building and we enjoyed the Spanish architecture. Our Spanish vocabulary has improved tremendlesly over the week;most of us can ask where the bathroom is (not) and greet the locals(not). Carlo took us to the Club Des Sportifos of Santa Ana for a delicious lunch in the shade, consisting of a club sandwich with a fried egg.

The Interactors enjoyed a swim in the pool with no sun burns to be reported! After that, we headed to a Rotarian´s project in Santa Ana, which was a dog shelter called Asociacion Protectora de Animales de Santa Ana. It was an emotional visit, as all the dogs were clearly in need of some love and affection. We donated some of our money to the Rotarian to help the dogs.

We came back to the hotel for an hour to get cleaned and dressed up. From the hotel we headed to a pupusa party at Rolando and Claudia´s house . We all pigged out on the feast they had laid out for us and enjoyed his cool-aired backyard. At 10pm we came back to the hotel to get some well deserved sleep in order to enjoy the beach tomorrow!
